Don’t leave a patient details visible. Keep them in a folder or in a draw.

If a person asks who did not attend with patient arrives and asks about a patient who is the clinic.  Consult the patient before releasing his or her information.

REMINDER

Starting the clinic
 
start the clinical day  by switching on the orange switch by the decontam hand wash sink.  Check the wall switches are all on. Fill the autoclave with deionised water. Start a vacuum test cycle.  Check the Washer has deteargent. Use a metal L clamp with red strip to test. Check the Dental chair is on at the wall.  Check it moves, the suction works and then run and flush the hand pieces. Put the kettle on.

REMINDER

Never put hand pieces in the sonic bath

When charting if you are unsure ask the dentist to slow down or repeat his self.

CROSS INFECTION

Protect yourself at all times!

Gloves mask apron when dealing with body fluids.

Prevention is better than cure!

Wash your hands properly and at the right times. See the clinics policy.

It only takes a little prick!

If you suffer  a needle stick:

Squeeze the wound to milk the blood.

Run under a tap.

Check the patients medical history and assess risk. Inform your senior. Fill in the accident book.

Raise your concerns.  

If you feel a vulnerable adult or a child is at risk speak to another member of staff.

Protect patients:

If  you are concerned about the behaviour of another member of staff and you feel this is putting patients at risk see the clinic whistle blowing web page.
